01 / What are you planning to buy?

Different vessels. A considered approach.

Marine finance availability depends on the type of vessel, age, condition, value and intended use. We can help you discuss options for eligible purchases.

01

Recreational boats

Discuss potential financing for eligible runabouts, bowriders and other recreational boats.

02

Fishing & trailer boats

Consider lending pathways for eligible fishing and trailerable boats, including package purchases.

03

Cruisers & yachts

04

Selected used watercraft

02 / Marine finance with context

A better decision starts with the full picture.

The vessel is only part of the story. We help you work through the practical details lenders may consider, so you can compare possible finance pathways with confidence.

Personal or business purpose

The vessel’s intended use may affect which products and lender conditions apply. Commercial use can require different assessment.

New or used vessel

Lenders may request vessel age, condition, hull identification and valuation information, depending on the asset.

Dealer or private seller

Private sales may require extra evidence of ownership, identification and purchase documents. Confirm requirements first.

03 / Planning for ownership

Look beyond the purchase price.

The right finance conversation considers the loan agreement and the ongoing costs of being on the water.

Loan terms & repayments

Compare the interest rate, fees, term, repayment schedule and overall cost. Longer terms can lower periodic repayments while increasing total interest.

Boat ownership costs

Allow for insurance, registration where required, berthing or storage, fuel, servicing, maintenance and safety equipment.

Vessel & buyer requirements

Vessel condition, age, identification, use and valuation may be assessed alongside your income, commitments and credit history.

Marine loan availability and any security requirements vary by lender and asset. Some vessels or uses may be ineligible. Finance options, costs and approvals are subject to individual assessment.

04 / How we work

From your first question to the next step.

Whether you're exploring a shortlist or have found a vessel, we can help explain how an application may work.

STEP 01

Tell us about the vessel

Share the type, approximate price, whether it is new or used and how you intend to use it.

STEP 02

Explore potential options

Discuss possible lending pathways and the lender conditions that may apply to your purchase.

STEP 03

Understand the requirements

Review loan details and any documents, valuation or vessel checks requested by a lender.

STEP 04

Apply when ready

If you choose to proceed, submit the required application information for a lender assessment.

What documents might be needed?

Identification, income or business financial details, existing commitments, purchase price, and vessel information such as make, model, year and seller details. Additional marine documentation may be required.

05 / Frequently asked questions

Marine finance, explained.

Helpful answers to common questions before financing a boat or another watercraft.

Can I apply for finance for a used boat?
Potentially. Some lenders consider eligible used vessels, but the vessel’s age, condition, valuation and supporting paperwork may influence available options.
Can I finance a boat bought from a private seller?
Some lenders may support qualifying private sales, subject to extra identity, ownership and valuation checks. Ask about requirements before paying a deposit or making a commitment.
Can I finance a yacht or larger cruiser?
Finance may be available for eligible yachts or cruisers. Lenders can set limits based on vessel type, age, value, intended use and other criteria, so eligibility needs to be checked.
What about jet skis and commercial watercraft?
Eligibility varies by lender and asset. Recreational personal watercraft, commercial marine vessels and specialty boats may follow different criteria or may not be covered. Contact us with the details.
Is a deposit required for boat finance?
Deposit requirements depend on the vessel, purchase price, lender and applicant circumstances. Some situations may require a contribution; there is no universal requirement.
Can I use a marine loan for business purposes?
The official marine quick-quote form lets you indicate personal or business use. The right product and eligibility depend on the nature of the use and the lender’s assessment.
Will requesting a marine quick quote affect my credit score?
The official Vertex leisure quick-quote form states that obtaining its quote does not affect your credit score. A later formal application may involve a credit enquiry; check before proceeding.
Does a marine finance quote guarantee approval?
No. Quotes are indicative. Approval, final rates and terms depend on the lender’s eligibility checks, credit assessment, financial verification and any vessel-specific requirements.
