01 / Funding needs

Different business goals. Different lending considerations.

Business finance is not one-size-fits-all. The purpose of the funds, your trading history and the lender’s policy can affect which loan options may be available.

Working capital

Discuss potential funding for eligible day-to-day operating costs and short-term cash-flow needs.

Business growth

Explore possible lending arrangements for expansion, new locations or developing business capacity.

Stock & inventory

Consider funding needs linked to purchasing stock, supplies or inventory ahead of demand.

Operational investment

Plan for eligible business improvements, equipment-related expenses or other approved commercial purposes.

02 / A considered approach

Finance that starts with understanding your business.

We take the time to understand what you want to achieve, then discuss potential lending pathways and the information a lender may need to assess your application.

Business structure & trading history

Your ABN, structure, time trading and the people behind the business can influence lender eligibility.

Revenue, commitments & affordability

Lenders may look at trading revenue, cash flow, existing liabilities and the ability to meet repayments.

Purpose, security & loan structure

The intended use of funds, requested amount and whether security is required can affect potential options.

03 / Know what to compare

Look beyond the amount you borrow.

The details of a business loan can affect cash flow, flexibility and the overall cost of funding.

Repayments & total cost

Compare the interest rate or pricing, fees, loan term, repayment frequency and overall amount payable. Longer terms may mean a higher total borrowing cost.

Loan structure & flexibility

Understand whether a facility is secured or unsecured, any variable-rate exposure, repayment obligations and restrictions on early repayment.

Fit for your cash flow

Consider seasonal revenue, upcoming expenses and your ability to manage repayments alongside everyday operations.

Business lending arrangements can have legal, tax and accounting implications. Seek advice from a qualified adviser where appropriate. Finance products and conditions vary by lender.

04 / A straightforward process

From a business goal to a clearer next step.

Start with a conversation about what you need. We’ll help explain possible pathways and what to prepare if you decide to apply.

Tell us your funding goal

Share the intended use of funds, approximate amount and the timeframe you are considering.

STEP 02

Discuss possible options

We explore relevant pathways through our lender network, subject to your business circumstances.

STEP 03

Review the requirements

Understand the key terms and information a lender may request to assess your application.

STEP 04

Apply when ready

If you choose to proceed, provide the required details for assessment by the relevant lender.

What information might I need?

Depending on the lender and loan, you may be asked for ABN and business structure, time trading, turnover, financial statements or bank records, existing debts, identification and details of how you intend to use the funds.

05 / Frequently asked questions

Business loans, explained.

Clear answers to common questions about applying for business finance in Australia.

What can a business loan be used for?
Subject to lender requirements, business loans may be considered for working capital, growth, stock purchases or other eligible commercial purposes. Availability depends on the loan product and how the funds will be used.
Can a sole trader or small business apply?
Some lenders consider eligible sole traders and small businesses. Business structure, time trading, revenue, credit history and other eligibility requirements vary between lenders.
How long does my business need to have been trading?
There is no universal minimum. Each lender has its own trading-history and financial criteria, and newer businesses may have fewer available options. Provide your business start date to discuss what might be relevant.
What is the difference between secured and unsecured business loans?
A secured loan is backed by an asset or other security accepted by the lender. An unsecured loan does not require the same type of pledged asset, but may still involve personal guarantees or other obligations. Pricing, limits and eligibility differ.
What information will I need for a business loan quote?
The official Vertex quick-quote form asks about the purpose and amount of borrowing, term, business structure, time trading, average revenue and relevant applicant details. More documents may be required during a full application.
Can I apply if my business has existing loans?
Potentially. Existing debt and commitments are typically assessed as part of affordability. The lender will consider cash flow, liabilities, credit information and the proposed new borrowing.
Will requesting a business loan quick quote affect my credit score?
The official Vertex Business Loans quick-quote page states that getting its free quote does not affect your credit score. A later formal application may involve a credit enquiry; review the relevant disclosures before proceeding.
Does submitting a quote mean my business loan is approved?
No. A quick quote is not a lending commitment. Final eligibility, loan amount, rates, fees, terms and approval are subject to the lender’s credit assessment and verification.
